Today

I'm not one for New Year's resolutions. In fact, I do good to get through one day at a time. My recent article at Forthright explains why December 30th is so important to me and how this day should get us one day closer to Jesus.

The Most Played List 2010

I love music so it's usually playing around the house or in the car. I love the way a song can make me forget about the stress of a day and focus in on what's important in life.

I keep coming back to this song. It's always exactly what I need to hear.

Try hearing this being sang by 400+ young people! Absolutely beautiful!

So, these are my top song picks for 2010 (I know that some of these were released prior to 2010, however, they only made my iTunes list this year so that counts ;)

What are some of your favs?

A Common Bond

Finishing this today was my Christmas present to myself. The cover is ready, the description set, and Lord willing, in 2011, this book will finally be available.

Here's a sneak preview of the cover and a very big thank you to Jeremy Pate for the design. Didn't he do a great job!

A Blue Christmas

This time of year sparks great memories, fun, and fellowship but for millions of people, it also leads to depression.

Many people are wading through their first holiday season grief-stricken. The death of a loved one, the loss of a marriage, or even a job leaves many searching for joy.

For some, this will be the first Christmas without a certain family member. An empty chair, bedroom, or even gifts without that familiar name will be a reminder of who isn’t there this year. A hard pill to swallow and those of us who know how difficult this first Christmas is, will be keeping you in our prayers.

For many, the holidays are tumultuous due to divorce and not being able to spend time with children or grandchildren. Many are enforcing custodial rights and battling exes. Some are using their children as pawns, not even realizing that it’s the kids who will suffer the most.

For adult children of divorce, the stress of making sure all sides of the family are visited can lead to dread and exhaustion.

Sure, the holidays are a time of joy, but for many, they are a time of great heartache. Memories that should carry happiness leave tender hearts sore and bruised.

Many will even be alone.

Sometimes it feels like we’re standing on the shore of a raging sea. And like the old children’s adage, we can’t go back, we can’t go around, and we can’t go over. We can only go through. The waters are going to rise. They’re going to be tough. They’re going to hurt but you don’t have to go through them alone.

If you’re going through a trying time, focus your thoughts on Jesus. Give Him your broken hearts and allow His comfort to bring you peace. He'll get you through this. It won't be easy but it is possible.

I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13

Does God Want You to be Happy?

I explore that question in my latest article at Forthright. Please visit my column An Encouraging Word and let me know what you think.

Have a great weekend!
